Here are the original stories and adoption
information about those dogs who came to us as a

Adopted*** Charlie ***Adopted
Charlie is a
beautiful, 6 month old, male Lab/Weimaraner mix.
He was found as a stray in Kansas City by a couple who had just lost their
home and was in no position to take on a dog. They searched for a no kill shelter and
called SCARS. I met them in
Lawrence, KS and as soon as I saw him, I knew he would get adopted quickly
and he did. In fact, the couple who
adopted him are both CPA's and needed to know up front
if Charlie could count. I was not
sure, but he is pretty smart so it is possible. He is fitting in just fine, having lots of
fun and they might just cut him some slack if he can't count, because he is
a wonderful companion.
Adopted*** Nina ***Adopted
Nina and her
mom, Lottie (still on website) followed a man six blocks in 100 degree
heat. He brought them in and
gave them food and water, searched for their owner and never found them.
Although he and his wife kept them for a while, they were unable to pay for
vet bills and turned them over to SCARS.
Nina is missing an eye from some kind of trauma, according to our
vet, but gets along great. She is so
adorable, she was scooped up and adopted by one of
our volunteers so Nina has "adopted" Peanut as her baby now.
Adopted*** Jackson ***Adopted
owner died, I despaired at finding him a home as it was so hard the first
time. He came from an abusive environment and a friend took him in two
years ago and kept him although she had only planned to foster! He does not warm up to strangers and
hides under the bed or table and barks ferociously. I had a call from a woman looking for a
companion dog and I told her about Jackson....with all of his
problems. She said she
would give him a try. He refused to come out of his crate so we carried it
into the garage and left him there to decide for himself when he would
emerge. Well, he did come out and
then refused to eat for three days.
Finally, he has settled in thanks to the family's incredible love
and patience. He is now their dog
and only their dog!!! It is truly a Christmas miracle.
Jackson is a 2-3
year old, tri color, male Australian Shepherd. He is neutered, housebroken and up to
date on shots. Jackson needs to go somewhere
that is relatively quiet as he is very shy and timid. His owner is critically ill and no longer
in her home. Jackson was rescued
from a very frightening environment two years ago and has worked out
perfectly in his present home since then.
We can provide many details, but the bottom line is he is gentle,
loving but shy. He could have worse problems!!!
Adopted*** Tigger ***Adopted
When I received a call from a family who needed to find homes
for all three dogs, I went into action.
Not only were we facing the holidays, but I only had two weeks. One
of the dogs was a Peagle named Tigger. I was
not familiar with this designer breed, but it is a Beagle/Pug mix. He was good to go and a got along well
with kids and other dogs. I had a
call from someone looking for a small to medium sized male dog and I called
them. This worked out great as their grandkids all loved him. Tigger is safely tucked away in his new home, just in
time for the holidays!!
Adopted*** Faith ***Adopted
A few months ago
we received a call for help on a dog in a Kansas shelter who was showing
aggression. I contacted my German Shepherd
owner friends and they adopted her.
She is doing great and has calmed down, and then we got Dallas! Dallas was a wild German Shepherd who was
blind in one eye. He needed some
serious work and guess who I called?
This couple knows how to deal with German Shepherds. They took Dallas in, made him into a
great housedog and now had their perfect family.....until we got
Faith!!! Faith had nowhere to go and
was too thin and showing some strange behaviors. Hmmmm...guess who I called?
They decided to just try her out briefly and when I got an application on Faith, they decided she was
staying right where she was.
Amazing!! I am a firsthand witness to three, somewhat unruly German
Shepherds, living in peace and harmony....what a Christmas gift!!!
Faith is a beautiful female, one year old German Shepherd ...
soon to be spayed. She is
housebroken and gets along well with dogs and kids. She tends to be on the thin side,
probably around 50 lbs and is up to date on her shots. She is wearing a
pink harness to show how cute she is!!
