information about those dogs who came to us as a result of abuse or

Adopted*** Bubba (now known as Bear) ***Adopted
Things were not looking good for Bubba. His owner was elderly and could no longer
care for him. He had to go. However, Bubba is starting to get up in
years and we were very, very full. I
suddenly remembered a friend who loves Blue Heelers. She is a nurse and likes a project, and
since Bubba is a tad overweight, this will be a project for sure. I even called her while on vacation and
she starting planning for grooming, obedience classes, exercise and a
low cal diet!
He is now BEAR and you can see the happiness in his face with his
new little girl!!
Adopted*** Marco ***Adopted
owner passed away, his wife felt she was unable to care for Marco
properly. SCARS was asked to help
find beautiful Marco a home. We had
earlier received an application on a dog who had been adopted, but I felt
they would be interested in Marco and they were!! We drove Marco to his new home in the
country an hour from here, where he loved the wide open spaces, and he
seemed to be disinterested in their cat (crucial for success!). So far the news is good...Marco now has
his own family again and can begin the healing process from losing his
Marco is a 4 year old purebred, neutered, housebroken lab. His owner recently passed away and he
needs a new home soon. Marco loves
everyone! He is truly
the perfect dog for someone with time and love to give him. He weighs around 60 lbs
and is up to date on all shots. He
is also great with kids and other dogs.
Adopted*** Oliver ***Adopted
Thank you to my friend who passed the word about Oliver at her
church!! I got a call as a result of
this shared information and took Oliver for a meet and greet that
evening. Their dog did fine with
him, and Oliver visibly settled in and relaxed. Our environment had been too stressful
for him - too much activity! I spoke
with his new owner tonight and she said "We won't be returning
Oliver is a 3 year old miniature poodle whose owner died and no
one in the family will take him. He
is neutered and housebroken (although with all of his changes, he may need
a refresher course). Oliver weighs
12 lbs and is looking for a quiet, loving home
where he can hang out and watch TV!
We do not recommend small children at this time as he tends to be
nervous when he first meets people.
He is a sweetie and would make a great companion!
Adopted*** Dixie (now known as Hazel) ***Adopted
Dixie was found
in an alley, she was covered in fleas and very thin. A kind person rescued her and kept her
until she got stronger and called SCARS.
One of our fosters took her in and found
that she was friendly with everyone - dogs, cats and kids! In addition, we all decided she was one
of the cutest pups ever!
On our Bathe the Dogs Day one of our sponsors came to
help, met Dixie and took her home!! Dixie is now Hazel (do you love
the name!) and so far, all is well.
Dixie was found one night in an alley, skinny and covered in
fleas. No one in the neighborhood
recognized her so some people took her in, but could not keep
her. They cleaned her up, took her
to the vet to be treated for fleas and turned her in to SCARS. It appears she is around 3-4 months old
and weighs approximately 30 lbs, which will
change, of course. Dixie is a mix breed, and here is what we are
guessing. Lab/mastiff/and something
else really cute!!! We think she will be large....will keep everyone
Lucky Girl has had a tough life until today. Now she has her very own home with loving
parents and three doggie friends!!
She is just a tiny bit bigger than the rest of them, but they do not
seem to be intimidated as she is a playful, gentle soul. We couldn’t be happier that friends of
ours have adopted this precious terrier and we know she will be loved
and cared for
Adopted*** Louie ***Adopted
Last year Gizmo was adopted by a friend in Kansas City and he
had a pit bull brother. His brother
recently died and Gizmo was lonely.
The adopter called us when she saw Louie's picture and drove to
Topeka to meet him. She just
loved him - who wouldn't? - and took him
home. He and Gizmo are
doing great and she said her face has never been cleaner. (Louie
Louie is a gorgeous, male Pit Bull mix. He has beautiful blue eyes and is about 2
years old. Louie had neighbors who
were prejudiced against Pit Bulls and his family felt he was not safe where
he was. Louie is the perfect
dog. He is housebroken, gentle, neutered , loves kids and other dogs, has never showed
any aggression, and weighs about 45 lbs. "Louie Bluey" is a big favorite
here at SCARS!!!
Adopted*** Sasha ***Adopted
A wonderful couple drove all the way from Wichita to adopt one
of our red lab pups. BUT!!!! When
they got here, they fell in love with the sweet little black female pup.
She reminded them of the lab they now have when she was a puppy. Now they
have two black labs, one is 7 years and one is 6 months! Her new name is
Sasha and so far, the news is all good!
Adopted*** Zeus ***Adopted
gone off to his new home with his beagle mix brother, Oreo! His family loved his "eyes" on
the website and drove quite a ways to meet him. He and Oreo liked each other from the
start and the latest report is they are now best buds!!!
Zeus was removed
from his home by the sheriff in a neighboring county. He is a 3 year old, male, Lab mix, who is
now in foster with a wonderful SCARS family who has other dogs, a cat and a
toddler!! Zeus is great with all of
them and almost totally housebroken.
He loves to play fetch and could spend hours in the water. Zeus has gained a considerable
amount of weight and now probably weighs about 60 lbs. He is solid and muscular and in
great health. Like most labs, Zeus
is the perfect family dog and is ready for his very own peeps!!!
