Here are the original stories and adoption
information about those dogs who came to us as a result of abuse or
abandonment, and have been placed in permanent homes during 2015.

Adopted *** Sammi ** Adopted
When Sammi was brought to us, I just
knew I would have a home for her fast!!
Sammi is a 6 year old Shih Tzu and her
owner was ill and had to move to a facility, leaving Sammi
homeless. Almost the same day, I had
a call from a friend who knew of a retired man needing a dog as his had
passed away. What a wonderful series
of events! Now Sammi is loved and
has a wonderful new home, and her owner has a companion again.
Adopted *** Puppy ** Adopted
"Puppy" had a rough start, but things started turning
around for him when he was moved to SCARS.
He went into a foster home who gave him the time he needed to
recover from his trauma of isolation.
He was terrified of people, of the world in general and was allowed
to be a recluse for a while. In
time, he learned to trust people and play with other dogs, and along came
the right owner who understood his dilemma.
This wonderful person flew out from New Jersey with her trusted
friend, rented a car, drove to SCARS and met her new little family member
(who hid under the sofa cushion!!) They drove off and headed for
the East coast in the rental car and the rest is all good. That is a true
love story, is it not???
as we fondly call him is a purebred Australian Shepherd who is five months
old, 25 lbs and neutered. He is a loving, sweet dog who adores
other dogs. Puppy is shy because he
came from a hoarding situation and takes his time relaxing with
new people. He will need
another dog to play with and a home with people who are patient and kind.
Adopted *** Barry ** Adopted
Barry has had an adventurous life so far!! He was sprung from a high kill shelter
and moved to Kansas to a friend's house, who happened to be a SCARS
foster. Then he went to the
"perfect" home but they did not like the way he looked at their
cat, so back he came. Now we think
he has found his forever home!! They
love him and say all is well in Barryland and we
will keep our fingers crossed.
Barry is a male, Boxer/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix of about a year
old. He weighs 50 lbs, is housebroken, and is fine with other dogs and
cats. He has a lot of energy
and needs exercise. Barry was
out of time in another state and rescued just in time. He will make someone a fabulous
Adopted *** Chief ** Adopted
relinquished by his owner because she was moving back east and had nowhere
permanent to live. She had no means
to take him and he was surrendered to SCARS. We had him neutered and got all of his
shots and ultimately the original owner found a home she could once again
share with Chief. We were never
reimbursed financially, but we were rewarded on a far different and higher
Chief is bit of
a challenge. He is only going to work for certain people. He is a Pit/Lab
mix and is just beautiful. Chief is
neutered, heartworm negative, up to date on shots. Chief a house dog although he also
enjoys being outside. He is
protective of his person and really needs to be an only dog with someone
who wants a running partner and a dog to hang out with. He weighs about 50 lbs
and will bond with someone and be a fantastic and loyal pet.
Adopted*** Ebony **Adopted
Ebony was found
with her "mom" as a stray running loose, matted and filthy. After being rescued and cleaned up it was
decided she and her mom needed to be separated. Mom, aka Ivory, wanted to
bite anyone who petted Ebony and this did not work out well. A family
adopted Ebony and their two children love her very much. She is being spoiled and we are hoping to
find the perfect family for Ivory next!
Adopted*** Whitney **Adopted
Whitney was found wandering down our dirt road with a
beautiful black lab. There was no doubt the owner would quickly
surface, but weeks passed and nothing happened. Although we advertised far and wide, it
became apparent that the dogs were dumped at our place on purpose. So, the process began and eventually the
black lab went off to this new home, and Whitney waited. This week we knew she had found her perfect home
and she went happily off today with three loving children arguing about who
would sit next to her!!!
found with her buddy, a black lab, wandering down a dirt road. Oddly enough, that road just happened to
be the same one where SCARS is located.
After weeks of advertising, the neighbors finally realized, no one
was going to claim these two beauties (the lab has been adopted). So, Whitney came to live here and she is
about a year old Great Pyrenees who weighs 55 lbs. and is now spayed.
She is gentle and loving, and is the perfect companion. One warning...she can clear a 6 foot
fence with the greatest of ease so lots of walks and supervision while
outside is recommended!
Adopted*** Sparky **Adopted
Sparky came to
us as a stray, but eventually his owner surfaced. She was unable to take him back, so he
came to live here at SCARS. We, of
course, fell in love with him and found him to be almost perfect. Along came the right family for him and
he is now settling in his new home very nicely. He has another dog to play with, a cat to
fear and a teenage girl to spoil him.
Have a great life, Sparky!!
Sparky is a gorgeous, male Aussie/(perhaps)
St Bernard mix. He is a year old,
neutered, heartworm negative and almost housebroken. He weighs 48 lbs
and is gaining weight, but lively.
He shows no aggression at all to people or dogs. Sparky is a bouncy, happy puppy!
